Love for Ethan: Garage sale and pancake breakfast

BEDFORD – A pancake breakfast and garage sale will be hosted at First Baptist Church at 1515 20th Street in Bedford, on Saturday, July 29, 2023. Running from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., the proceeds of the event will benefit and support one Ethan Holsapple, the youngest son of Jeremy and Amy Holsapple. Please contact Hilltop Pentecostal Church for information regarding donations for the yard sale, as well as other event details at (937) 510-0568.

Ethan had a normal, rambunctiously boyish life, but began to experience severe gastrointestinal pain in December of 2021. The pain prevented him from eating, and he dropped weight at an alarming rate. Ethan was admitted to Riley Children’s Hospital, where he was stabilized while they worked to locate the problem.

Ethan, 14, was diagnosed in 2022 with Histoplasmosis, and later CD40 Ligand Deficiency. CD40 is a condition that is only found in 1 in 500,000 male children. The condition effectively cripples Ethan’s immune system, leaving him vulnerable without immuno-defense.

Ethan was referred to the National Institute for Health in Bethesda Maryland, where he is now under the care of Dr. Luigi D. Notarangelo M.D., and his team of physicians. Dr. Notarangelo is one of the best in the world in the CD40 Ligand Deficiency field.

As things stand now, Ethan has been subject to weekly transfusions. However, today Ethan has a scheduled bone marrow transplant that will hospitalize him for a minimum of four months. The latest update from roughly 3 a.m. this morning shows Ethan preparing for treatments and procedures.

The Holsapple family has created a page for those willing to help support their family in this ordeal so that they can focus their attention and support on Ethan as he works through these difficulties. Ethan’s dedicated support Facebook page explains that “Our goal is to raise enough support to cover the Holsapple’s hotel, food, and responsibilities back home so they can completely focus on Ethan during this difficult time.”

To aid the Holsapples, you can attend the garage sale and pancake breakfast, enjoy delicious food for $8, or support him and his family at https://www.givesendgo.com/loveforethan.
