Toll rates increase on bridges linking Kentucky and Indiana

INDIANA — If you are traveling from Indiana to Kentucky be prepared to pay more.

RiverLink has increased toll rates by nearly 5%, and that change took effect on Saturday.

Three bridges connecting Louisville, Kentucky, and Southern Indiana are tolled: the I-65 Lincoln and Kennedy bridges and the SR 265/KY 841 Lewis and Clark Bridge.

The rates raised from 2.5% to 4.9%. Drivers will pay $5.04 for passenger vehicles or $2.52 for those with a RiverLink account.

RiverLink is all-electronic tolling, which means no slowing, no stopping, and no lines. Drivers with prepaid accounts in good standing and transponders pay the lowest toll rates.

You have several options to save money on your crossings:

Non-Tolled Options

The Clark Memorial Bridge, also known as the Second Street Bridge, connecting Jeffersonville with downtown Louisville remains toll-free, as does the Sherman Minton Bridge, or I-64, connecting West Louisville and New Albany.

For drivers who don’t take advantage of one of these options, cameras capture license plates and invoices are mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. It could take several weeks to receive an invoice. The first invoice is only for tolls owed.

1. RiverLink Prepaid Account With Transponder

Sign up for a RiverLink account, deposit at least $20, and request a transponder. Options include a local transponder (free, one per registered vehicle) or an E-ZPass that can be used in several states ($15 per transponder). With both types of transponders, you’ll save more than $2 per crossing, even if your transponder doesn’t arrive before your trip. If you close your account later, your account balance will be returned to you.
