Couple returns from vacation to find their home ransacked and vehicle stolen


BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on Monday, June 19th after Bedford Police officers responded to 2900 Cement Plant Road at 7:25 a.m. following a report of a stolen vehicle

The residents reported a black 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 truck had been stolen from the property. A male said he had left the keys in the vehicle and it had been parked in front of the garage while he was on vacation in Ohio.

A woman reported the truck had been captured on video. The vehicle came and went from the property several times. The person driving the truck would arrive around 11 p.m. and the last time she saw the truck leave was around 4:42 a.m.

When the couple entered the home they found all the lights on and firearms moved around inside the home. A 1960 Willys Jeep parked in the garage had been tampered with. The ignition and ignition wiring of the Jeep had been torn out and a gun was located inside the vehicle. The homeowners had not placed the gun in the vehicle. None of the guns were stolen from the home, the homeowners were able to locate their guns in other places inside the home.

Police say the home was rummaged through, with cabinets left open, but nothing was missing from the home.

At approximately 1:20 p.m. a Martin County Sheriff’s Department deputy located the vehicle. The vehicle was returned to the owner.

Haven Roll

The driver identified as 30-year-old Haven Roll was arrested on charges of auto theft, attempted theft of a vehicle, burglary, criminal mischief, and criminal trespass.

While in custody Roll admitted that he was in his aunt’s residence and that he took the Dodge Ram after failing to get the Jeep to start. Roll was transported to the Lawrence County Jail for housing.
