Springville man nabs sister’s vehicle while she sleeps

SPRINGVILLE – A Springville man was arrested after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a residence after a report that 31-year-old Justin Parsley had arrived at a home at 251 Popcorn Road impaired, had taken the caller’s wife’s vehicle and then crashed it into the house.

The caller said he and his wife were sleeping when they were woken by the crash. When they ran outside they saw Parsley in the vehicle.

The caller said Parsley had taken the vehicle and backed it up and hit the air conditioning unit damaging the house, the air conditioning unit, and the vehicle. The caller then called 911 and requested an officer to the home.

The couple told police they wanted to file charges.

The caller’s mother-in-law told police she was watching television when Parsley came to the back door and asked for his sister’s car keys. The woman said Parsley was “acting out of control”. He then took the keys and ran out into the yard screaming. He jumped into the car and began backing down the driveway. She ran out of the house and attempted to stop Parsley by pulling him out of the vehicle, but he continued to back out of the driveway. She then began shouting for help and that is when Parsley backed into the air conditioning unit.

Police found Parsley sitting on the back step of the house. Police say Parsley was impaired by drugs. He failed numerous field sobriety tests. A warrant was issued for a blood draw at IU Health Hospital. Those results are pending.

Parsley was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, unauthorized entry to a vehicle in the commission of a crime, and he was wanted on a warrant for a petition to modify probation.
