Mitchell man arrested on OWI charges after report of a possible impaired driver

BEDFORD – A Mitchell man was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OWI endangerment after a Bedford Police officer stopped his vehicle on May 24, 2023.

Derrick Eisele

On that day a Bedford Police officer stopped a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Derrick Eisele after receiving a report of a white Mitsubishi passenger car driving erratically. The caller reported the driver had driven off the road multiple times and was last seen traveling west on US 50 heading into Bedford.

The officer located the vehicle traveling west on 16th Street near Revere’s Food & Fuel. The officer was flagged down by a passerby reporting the vehicle was parked at Rocket Fuel.

The officer spoke to Derrick Eisele, who was parked at the gas pump and was intoxicated.

Eisele failed several field sobriety tests. The caller reported he had captured the intoxicated driver on video driving recklessly and veering off the road and then back across the center line.

Eisele took a preliminary breath test which yielded a positive result for alcohol with a result of 0.281.

Eisele was detained and transported to IU Health Hospital for a blood draw. His vehicle was towed by Stone City Wrecker Service. During the inventory of the vehicle, police found four open alcohol bottles.
