Arrest made when man threatens to shoot a woman and her dog

MITCHELL – A man was arrested on a warrant on a charge of intimidation with a deadly weapon after a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy responded on December 6, 2021, at 12:43 a.m. following a report of a suspicious person at 1194 Grindstone Hollow Road.

While en route to the call, Lawrence County Central Dispatch reported the caller reported the man was outside of her house yelling and screaming and was making threats to shoot the caller’s dog and the caller.

When the deputy arrived a Mitchell Police officer had also responded.

Michael Wade

They found 46-year-old Michael Wade on the porch with a rifle in his hand. He was detained at gunpoint. The weapon Wade had was a loaded 410 shotgun.

A female exited the home and told police she had fallen asleep on her couch and woke to Wade yelling and talking to himself.

She told police this behavior is “not abnormal for Michael, but he usually stays on the roadway”.

She stated she called 911 when Wade began to beat on her door, yelling. He then went to the back door and tried to open it. That is when she grabbed her 20-gauge pump shotgun from her bedroom and hid in a bedroom until the police arrived.

That was when Wade threatened to shoot her and her dog and continued to scream.

She requested to file charges against Wade.

Neighbors told police, “It was not unusual for Michael to be walking up and down the road, speaking out loud to God, people that were not with him, and people that had been deceased”. The neighbors believed Wade was a suspected drug user and “has been found doing similar things in other neighbors’ yards”.

EMS arrived on the scene and spoke with Wade. They believed Wade was a danger to himself, and that he was possibly under the influence of drugs during the time of this incident.

Police then learned that Wade’s home was “extremely uninhabitable, having no running water, and no electricity, and the roof was caving in”.

Officers completed an Immediate Detention of Wade and an officer transported him to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

After his release, he was arrested on a charge of intimidation with a deadly weapon.
