White River Alliance launches the White River Report Card with Canoe Races on June 23 and 30

INDIANAPOLIS — The White River Alliance, a key leader for regional water resource protection in Indiana, is celebrating the completion of the first-ever White River Report Card with a launch party and canoe races on June 23 and 30.

The White River Report Card is an assessment and communication tool used to better understand the health of the White River and inspire changes to improve it. It was patterned after a national best-practice model known as Eco-Health Report Cards. After spending the past year discussing the measurements with hundreds of stakeholders and defining indicators for what is considered healthy with dozens of experts, the White River Alliance will unveil the Report Card results to local communities, public officials, and business leaders. The discussion will be followed by a canoe race on two different stretches of the river, further putting a spotlight on the asset and opportunity the river represents to central Indiana.

Kelly Brown

“The White River is such an important resource for our state, and this Report Card is an opportunity to open the discussion on what’s impacting the river and what we can do to keep it and its surrounding landscape functioning in a way that supports the many users who depend on it,” said Kelly Brown, White River Alliance, Senior Environmental Coordinator. “The canoe races following the launch are a perfect way to celebrate the many partners that contributed to this important project and enjoy the recreational value the river provides us all. ”

Two events will be held: one in Noblesville and one in Yorktown. They are free for those only interested in the Report Card launch event and do not plan to enter the canoe race. Pay close attention to parking details as arrival locations will differ for Report Card attendees and canoe racers. For those who wish to take part in the races, the registration fee for each two-person team is $80, which includes the canoe rental, food, refreshments, and live music entertainment. Proceeds support the White River Alliance. Registration closes June 16.
