Bedford man crashes aircraft in Campbellsburg, sustains non-life threatening injuries

CAMPBELLSBURG – On May 17, 2023, at approximately 10:33 am Deputy Paul Reyling was dispatched to the area of 10981 N. Booker Road, Campbellsburg, to meet with Lonnie Brown.

Deputy Reyling arrived at that address and spoke with Brown, who advised Deputy Reyling that he had located an unmanned Ultra-Light Aircraft in his field. The Ultra-Light Aircraft was damaged so Deputy Reyling contacted the FAA, who responded to the scene to assist with investigating the incident.

Sheriff Brent Miller said that Damon Evans came to the scene and spoke with the FAA and said that his brother, Daniel Evans of Bedford, Indiana was the operator of the aircraft and Daniel had crashed the aircraft around 4 pm on May 16, 2023.

Damon further advised that Daniel was taken to Methods Hospital, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Further investigation revealed that Daniel was being treated for non-life threatening injuries he received during the crash.

Damon advised investigators that Daniel had crashed the aircraft while trying to land. Damon said the wing had hit the ground causing it to crash before Daniel was ejected from the aircraft. Daniel is expected to make a full recovery from the crash.
