IDEM welcomes Lieber SRA Marina into the Indiana Clean Marina Program

CLOVERDALE, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) recognized the Lieber State Recreation Area (SRA) marina as the newest member of the Indiana Clean Marina program. Lieber SRA’s marina is Indiana’s eighth Clean Marina.

Lieber SRA is located at 1317 W. Lieber Road in Cloverdale, Ind.

IDEM Office of Program Support Assistant Commissioner Bob Lugar, presented an Indiana Clean Marina membership to DNR Deputy Director of Community Grants and Trails Dale Brier and Lieber SRA, Cataract Falls SRA, and Cagles Mill Lake Property Manager Lynda Ellington on Tuesday, May 23.

“Hoosiers and visitors to Indiana clearly love the fun that comes with boating,” said IDEM Assistant Commissioner Bob Lugar. “We are excited to recognize Lieber SRA for their efforts to ensure boaters have fun in a way that doesn’t negatively impact the lake.”

The Clean Marina Program is voluntary and encourages marina operators and recreational boaters to protect water quality and habitats by engaging in environmentally sound operating and maintenance practices.

Lieber SRA marina offers an onsite pump out and newly renovated floating docks, fuel station, and marina store. In addition, signage is present to educate boaters on proper fueling techniques and other clean boating topics. Boy Scouts of America Troop 621 (Greenwood, Ind.) Life Scout and Jr. Assistant Scoutmaster William Anspach constructed a fishing line recycling bin for his Eagle Scout project. Anspach’s project will reduce the chances of wildlife becoming entangled in fishing lines that some anglers leave behind on the shoreline.

“As Hoosiers get out to enjoy our many DNR properties, responsible recreation guides us every step of the way, ensuring that we’re protecting, enhancing, preserving, and wisely using our state’s natural resources,” said Indiana State Parks Deputy Director Dale Brier. “We’re proud that our team at Lieber SRA is helping lead the charge to make it even easier for guests to practice clean boating on Cagles Mill Lake.”

Lieber SRA joins seven other marinas in IDEM’s Clean Marina Program, which all renewed membership this year. They include Hammond Marina (Hammond), Lake Monroe Sailing Association (Bloomington), Marina Shores (Portage), Sammie L. Maletta Public Marina (Portage), Sprague Point Marina (Michigan City), Two Herons Marina (Bloomington and Washington Park Marina (Michigan City).
