Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT team apprehends serious violent felon with canine assistance

JENNING CO. – Officers with the Seymour Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff Department multi-jurisdictional SWAT team assisted the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department in the apprehension of a serious violent felon with a canine apprehension.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, May 11th, detectives with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division began gathering information regarding a wanted violent felon in the Hayden area, in Geneva Township.

The suspect, Brian L. Weber, was wanted on three active warrants with nationwide extradition, listed below:

  • Indiana Parole re-take warrant for dealing cocaine
  • Decatur County, IN warrant for failure to appear for habitual offender sentencing hearing
  • Decatur County, IN warrant for burglary while armed with a deadly weapon/causing serious bodily injury

Weber also had a lengthy criminal history including previous drug and violent crime convictions.

Investigators were provided intelligence that Weber had made comments that he was not going to go back to prison and would go down in “a blaze of glory”.

Investigators applied for and were granted a search warrant by the Jennings County Circuit Court for a Hayden residence where Weber had been living.

The Jennings County SWAT team was activated, and Seymour Police Department’s SWAT team assisted in the operation. With the assistance of Seymour Police Department SWAT and several other agencies, the search warrant was executed and Weber who was outside at the time, fled across several properties.

Police received serval 911 calls from concerned citizens who reported seeing Weber on their property as he fled. These 911 calls aided in locating Weber. After a thorough search of the area, Weber was located in a barn approximately a half mile away from the location of the search warrant.

Instead of giving up and surrendering Weber attempted to end his own life.

Jennings County K-9 Zobi was deployed by his handler, Deputy Shane Trepanier, and Brian was successfully apprehended by Zobi before he could end his life.

Weber was treated for minor injuries and remanded into the custody of the Jennings County Jail.

Assisting Agencies included Seymour Police Department SWAT Team, Jennings County EMA, Jennings County EMS, Indiana DNR, and Indiana State Police.
