Judge sentences Bedford man to prison following Problem-Solving Court violations

BEDFORD – Lawrence County Superior Court I Judge John M. Plummer III sentenced a Bedford man to 690 days in the Indiana Department of Corrections Wednesday.

Shaun East, 35, pled guilty to Strangulation, a Level 6 felony as part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana.

The plea agreement, negotiated with a Lawrence County Deputy Prosecutor in 2022, outlined that East would serve 2 years and 182 days in the Indiana Department of Corrections with 1 year and 325 days of the sentence suspended and ordered to be served on supervised probation.

East was accepted into the Lawrence County Domestic Violence Problem-Solving Court run by the Honorable Judge Plummer III. After many violations of the Problem-Solving Court and being dishonest with the team, East was sentenced to serve the remainder of his sentence in the Indiana Department of Corrections.

Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings: “This office takes Domestic Violence crimes very seriously and is very selective with the people who are allowed to participate in this problem. It is an opportunity and privilege to be in the program and those, like the Defendant, who choose to be dishonest with the people who are trying to help them, will face the consequences of that dishonesty. In this case, the consequence was prison.”
