Bedford man flees to Monroe County after a domestic dispute but is still arrested

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic fight at 188 Hayes Road.

The female caller reported that 49-year-old Donald Chester was armed with a firearm and had threatened to kill her and then himself.

Before arriving officers were told Chester had left in a white Chevrolet pickup truck and was headed to Monroe County.

When police arrived they found the woman on the front porch and they entered the home. The woman told police Chester had pinned her down on the bed by her wrists and then choked her saying he was going to kill her. To get Chester off her the woman scratched him and punched him in the face. He then punched a hole in the wall. Chester grabbed a firearm and said he was going to kill himself. He then packed a bag and left saying he was going to a home in Monroe County.

The woman then attempted to call 911 and Chester took the phone and threw it at the wall.

The woman signed a battery affidavit. Police said the woman did have red handprint marks on her neck and bruises on her right hand.

Chester was located by Monroe County Sheriff’s Department deputies and arrested and transported back to Lawrence County on charges of domestic battery, strangulation, and interfering with the reporting of a crime.
