They were accompanied by Capt. Andrew Phillips.

The three officers were recognized following a shooting incident that happened on Sunday, February 5, 2023, following a traffic stop and drug investigation on State Road 37 at the Sinclair station. The suspect opened fire on the officers. Officers Anderson and Rhoades were wounded and the suspect died when officers returned fire.

“Unfortunately, this is a grim reminder of the dangers that our officers face every day,” said Sheriff Greg Day after the event. “Yes, we live in a safe and supportive community compared to other places around the state and country, but even here officers put their lives on the line every day. I am proud of my brothers and sisters in our law enforcement community. You, our citizens, are in good hands.”
