Bodies of missing IU students recovered this morning at Lake Monroe

LAKE MONROE – The bodies of Siddhant Shah, 19, and Aryan Vaidya, 20, have been recovered from Lake Monroe this morning.

At approximately 11:23 a.m., Indiana Conservation Officers located and recovered the bodies in 18 feet of water in an area east of the Paynetown Marina.

The students were boating on a pontoon with friends on the lake Saturday afternoon when the group anchored not far from the Paynetown boat launch to swim. When both men did not resurface, friends tried to help but were unsuccessful.

Not everyone was wearing life jackets.

Both students attended IU’s Kelley School of Business, the university said. Support resources and counseling services are available to students through the IU Division of Student Affairs.
