Bluejackets struggle at the plate in 8-1 loss to Scottsburg

MITCHELL – Mitchell High School suffered their fifth loss of the season on Monday at the hands of Scottsburg, falling 8-1 after falling behind early and struggling to get back into the game.

The Warriors struck first thanks to a two-run homer from Abbey Martin in the first inning. A double from Myca Buckel in the second inning knocked in another run for Scottsburg, which was followed by Martin earning her third and fourth RBIs of the game on a single a few at bats later. They’d ended the inning up 6-0 following an RBI single from Hailey Schafer.

The Bluejackets earned their first hit of the game in the third with a single from Avery Southern, advancing Rylee Brazzell, who reached base on a walk to kick off the inning. A sacrafice fly from Malaya Tanglao in the following at bat brought Brazzell home for what would be Mitchell’s lone run scored in the game.

The Bluejackets tallied just three hits in the matchup, those coming from Southern, Manglao and Emerie Russell.

Buckel earned the win at the mound for Scottsburg behind a strong performance, allowing just three hits and one earned run in six innings pitched, while striking out eight.

Mitchell starter Karsyn Coleman received the loss for the game.She threw for two innings, giving up six hits and six earned runs. She was relieved by Southern, who threw the remaining five innings in the game, who allowed one hit and zero earned runs.

Now at 6-5 on the season, the Bluejackets will next host Eastern Greene (3-6) on Tuesday.
