Bluejackets blowout Crawford County 18-5 for third straight win

By Noah Dalton

MARENGO – Mitchell High School made the trip to Marengo on Monday to take on Patoka Lake Athletic Conference opponent Crawford County, who the Bluejackets handled 18-5.

This marks three wins in a row now for Mitchell, who’ve ended each of those three wins early via the IHSAA’s 10-run mercy rule, with dominant performances against Shoals 13-1 on Saturday and Paoli 11-1 on Friday.

Leading things for the Bluejackets’ in their nine hit, 18-run performance against the Wolfpack was junior Ben Seitzinger, who finished the game with two hits and a team high four-RBIs, including his first home run of the year in the second inning.

Mitchell got their scoring started early on Monday, sporting a 9-1 lead by the end of the second inning. After a scoreless third, they matched their total from the first two innings to close out the game, scoring another nine runs in the fourth and fifth.

In addition to Seitzinger’s two hits and four RBIs, AJ Sarver and Kody Earl each also had two hits. Sarver and Simon Gaines both finished with three RBIs, with Gibson Glassco and Connor Teague batting in two runs each.

Earl earned the win at the mound for the Bluejackets, throwing for three innings. He gave up two hits and three earned runs in addition to striking out six.

Now at 9-1 for the season and 3-0 in the PLAC, Mitchell will play again the following day when they face Scottsburg (5-2).
