Indiana State Police investigate shooting in Winchester

WINCHESTER – On Sunday, April 2, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Winchester Police Department Assistant Chief Brandon Barndollar contacted the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division requesting assistance with a shooting that occurred at the 600 block of East Short Street in Winchester, Indiana.

When Winchester Police Officers arrived at the scene, they located a female in the front yard with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.  Officers immediately provided medical assistance and secured the scene. Three individuals were detained by police and transported to the Winchester Police Department to be interviewed.

The female victim, who was identified as Isabel Hernandez, 36, of Winchester, was transported to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne where she was pronounced deceased by medical staff.  Her family was present at the hospital and has been notified.

 Larry J. Planck III, 25, Winchester, was arrested and preliminarily charged with murder.

The investigation is being conducted by Indiana State Police detectives, Brad Tucker and Rich Clay with the assistance of Sergeant Scott Jarvis, CSI Sergeant James Stevens, and CSI First Sergeant John Petro.  

Assisting Agencies:  Winchester Police Department, Winchester Fire/EMS, Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, Randolph County Department of Child Services.

This is an active and ongoing Indiana State Police investigation.  There is no further information to release at this time.  Upon completion of their investigation, Indiana State Police detectives will submit a full report of the incident to the Randolph County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
