Columbus Firefighters battle fire at Eastlake Woods apartment complex

COLUMBUS – Columbus Fire Department battled a fire at the Eastlake Woods apartment complex on Thornton Court Saturday night.

All of the occupants of the apartments were out of the building when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters arrived on the scene at 8:32 p.m. to find thick smoke and flames shooting from the second floor of the three-story building.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to contain the blaze.

During the overhaul, firefighters discovered a hidden pocket of flames that had gone from the second to third floors.

Nine units were damaged in the fire. Three apartments were damaged by fire and six had a combination of smoke and water damage. Damages were estimated at more than $300,000.

Tenants in all nine apartments were displaced but have housing lined up with family and friends, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters were on the scene for about four hours.
