Man arrested on two counts of theft from local Walmart

BEDFORD – A Brownstown man was arrested on two counts of theft after Bedford Police detectives began an investigation on May 24, 2022, regarding an incident at Walmart.

David Villa

On May 13, 2022, a male 33-year-old David Villa, and a female Marissa Meyer, of North Vernon parked their vehicle between the front entrances of the store. They entered the store via the grocery entrance with a bag containing a black polo shirt.

The two walked to the back of the store into the craft aisle where Villa is captured on video and picked up a bottle of craft glue valued at $19.78. Meyer continued to the electronics and stationary aisles.

The two meet up in the apparel aisle and proceed to the customer service area.

Villa returned the polo shirt and the stolen craft glue, pocketing $21.16 including tax.

While this was taking place, Meyer continued past Customer Service and continued to shop throughout the store. Meyer would go on to make several selections of men’s shirts, men’s shorts, a kitchen trash can, potting soil, and cupcakes.

Meyer concealed the clothing items in the trash can while in the home department. Meyer then, at 2:25 p.m., pushed all those items out of the grocery exit, passing all final points of sale, without rendering payment, or attempting to purchase any of the items in her possession, stealing $109.42 before tax.

She then re-entered the store and goes to the seasonal department directly behind the self-checkout registers. She finds a pallet jack and loads a large pool onto the pallet jack. Meyer exits the store with the pool, passing all final points of sale, and failing to render any payment for the item. This resulted in a loss of $344.00, pre-tax.

Meyer entered the store one final time, to speak with Villa as he was standing in line, at register 51, a belted self-checkout, to make his purchase. Meyer exited the store prior to Villa starting his transaction. While scanning his items, Villa is captured on video not properly scanning a pack of girls’ shorts, two girls’ shirts, a can of Color Shot, and a hot deli plate meal. The transaction had to be suspended and an Associate took Villa to another register to allow him to pay. Once payment was rendered, Villa exited the store, via the grocery exit, failing to render proper payment for all the items in his possession. This resulted in a loss of $39.39, pre-tax, to the store.

The following day, Meyer and Villa returned to the store, and Bedford Police were alerted. Asset Protection detained Meyer and Villa as they were taking the large cart of merchandise they had, again, selected in the store.

Officers spoke to both, but they refused to speak to the officers.  They were escorted from the property.

The information and videos were forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office.
