WTIU News to produce TV special on IU women’s basketball

BLOOMINGTON — WTIU News is producing a new television special on the Indiana University women’s basketball team and its remarkable 2022-23 season.

IU Women’s Basketball: Rising to the Top premieres Thursday, March 23 at 8 p.m. on
WTIU.

This half-hour program introduces viewers to the team and head coach Teri Moren, who has built a nationally ranked program in her nine seasons—having the best regular season in history this year. The show also explores the impact the team is having on women’s basketball in the state. Led by veteran players Mackenzie Holmes and Grace Berger and newcomers Sydney Parrish and Yarden Garzon, the Hoosiers finished the season 27-3 and won their first Big Ten title since 1983. The 27 wins are the most in program history.

Indiana was ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation—it’s highest ranking ever—late in the season and finished as the third-ranked team in the country.

The Hoosiers are projected to be a No. 1 seed when the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament pairings are announced, and they will host the first two rounds of tournament action at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

Moren said the Hoosiers have been building to this moment and have accepted the notion of being at the top of the college basketball world.

“They’ve always sort of embraced who they are, the pressure that comes with being the hunted, being the number one seed. We’ve had to play like that throughout the whole season, where everybody’s going to give us their best. And we’ve realized that, we’ve stepped up to that challenge more so than we haven’t, and I’m really pleased with the way we’ve handled ourselves.”

The Hoosiers reached the Elite Eight two years ago and the Sweet 16 last year. This season, they have their sights set on reaching the Final Four in Dallas.
