BNL Star System Percussion starts off the season scoring big

BEDFORD – The Bedford North Lawrence (BNL) Star System Percussion Season has started with the group placing at each competition.

They performed in three invitationals first at Owen Valley High School, then at Northview High School, and finally at Franklin Community High School. 

The BNL Star System Percussion is a group of band members from BNL who come together to play a piece of music using only percussion instruments like bass drums, snare drums, tenor drums, cymbals, marimbas, xylophones, and bass guitars.

Their performing piece is called “Time.”  It includes songs “Time in a Bottle” and “Time Keeps on Slipping”

The Star System Percussion’s first competition was at Owen Valley High School, Saturday, Feb. 11.  There they placed Second out of the three bands competing.  In the category of Music Effect, they scored 19.05.  In the category of Visual Effect, they scored 12.40. In the category of Music, they scored 19.10.  In the category Visual they scored 12.30.  This gave them a total of 62.850.  Terre Haute South Indoor Percussion beat them with a total of 65.650.

The next competition was at Northview High School, on Saturday, Feb. 18.  There they placed First out of the four bands competing.  In the category of Music Effect, they scored 21.15.  In the category of Visual Effect, they scored 13.50.  In the category of Music, they scored 19.60.  In the category of Visual, they scored 12.10.  These scores gave them a total of 66.350 which landed them a victory.

The next and most recent competition was at Franklin Community High School, on Saturday, March 4.  There they placed Fourth out of the 11 bands.  In the category of Music Effect, they scored 21.45.  In the category of Visual Effect, they scored 13.40.  In the category of Music, they scored 19.60.  In the category of Visual, they scored 13.50.  This gave them a total of 67.950.  

The groups’ next competition will be their State Prelims at Pendleton Heights High School, on Saturday, March 11.  They will perform at 2:34 p.m. with awards at 3:19 p.m.
