Fire destroys rented home of City of Seymour Councilman Chad Hubbard

SEYMOUR – Firefighters battled a house fire Thursday morning at the home of the City of Seymour Councilman Chad Hubbard and his family.

The fire was reported at 11:30 a.m. at 820 South Pine Street in Seymour.

Hubbard said Friday a couple of family members were at home at the time of the fire but were able to get out without injury.

Southeast Indiana Chapter of the American Red Cross helped put the family up at a local hotel for several days, but they are looking for a place to stay until the home, owned by Wehmiller Properties LLC, can be repaired.

Seymour Fire Chief Brad Lucas said the fire started in the basement and then traveled up a wall causing an estimated $80,000 in damages.

“I wanted to get reach out and thank everybody for the private messages,’ Hubbard wrote on Facebook. ” If I have not responded to you or back to you I apologize. Please bear with me in these difficult times. I didn’t want anybody to feel I was ignoring them trying to reach back out to as many as possible and still get things done. Thank you again everyone for your continued support.”
