MITCHELL – On Wednesday, Jan. 25th at 12:54 p.m. Mitchell Police officers were summoned to a home in the 200 block of West Main Street after a report of a domestic fight.

When police arrived 30-year-old Paige Penrose told police she had been involved in a physical altercation with her boyfriend 39-year-old Kristopher Canfield, of Bedford.

Penrose told police Canfield was behind the home near the garage, but officers were unable to locate him.

A 9-year-old boy told police Canfield had pushed him.

Penrose told police Canfield had pushed her down onto a couch, causing her to hit her forearm, leaving a small laceration.

Penrose claimed the boy was pushed when she attempted to get back up to hit Canfield but he then pushed her down once again.

While speaking to Penrose, Canfield arrived at the Mitchell Police Department.

At the station, Canfield told police he was making breakfast with the boy and Penrose got upset with Canfield because he was not in the bedroom with her.

Canfield claimed that he tried to avoid Penrose by going into another room, but she prevented him from shutting the door. He said that is when Penrose then pushed him and punched him in the face.

Police say there was a red and discolored area on the side of Canfield’s face.

An adult male who witnessed the fight told police there was a physical altercation and that he did see Penrose hit Canfield in the face. When she attempted to hit him a second time, Canfield did push Penrose after being hit and pushed her a second time when she attempted to get up and punch Canfield again. The man said he did not see Canfield push the child.

Penrose arrived at the station and denied hitting Canfield. She did admit that she hit him in the back after he pushed her down.

Police arrested both Canfield and Penrose on a charge of domestic battery in the presence of a minor. The Department of Child Services was also alerted. The boy was released to his biological father.

Police say this is not the first time they have responded to domestic fights at the home. Officers responded on Nov. 11, 2021, twice on June 6, 2022, September 24, 2022, and December 29, 2022. The last response took place on December 30, 2022.
