Indiana Senate Bill 67 would make it illegal for anyone 22 or older to be in a relationship with anyone 18 or under

INDIANAIndiana Senate Bill 67 would make it illegal for anyone 22 or older to have sex, fondle, or intimately touch anyone under 18.

Senator Mike Bohachek

The Bill, authored by Rep. Senator Mike Bohachek, of District 8, adds the criminal offense of sex with a minor, which is committed when a person who is at least 22 years of age engages in sexual intercourse or other sexual conduct, fondling, or touching with a child who is at least 16 years of age but less than 18 years of age.

As of now, in the state of Indiana, the age of consent is 16 years old.

Senator Bohacek, says the current law contradicts other laws.

He says Indiana Indiana Code Title 35 35-45-4-6 says it is illegal to take intaminte images – photographs, digital images, or video images of a 16-year-old but the current law says the age of consent is 16 meaning it is okay to be in a relationship with them, that’s a contradiction.

Bohacek says he expects a little push-back from the legislature.
