Vicky Schlegel announces her candidacy for Mayor of Mitchell

MITCHELL – Longtime resident and community volunteer, Vicky Schlegel, is seeking the Republican nomination for Mayor of Mitchell in the May 2 primary.

Vicky Schlegel

Vicky is a graduate of Ivy Tech with associate degrees in accounting and business administration. She also holds certificates she’s earned from Ivy Tech in payroll and bookkeeping. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in general studies, with a minor in psychology, from Indiana University Southeast

Vicky is currently employed at Insights Optical in Mitchell. She has more than 20 years of experience in office management, human resources, payroll, accounting, accounts receivable, project management, and property management.

This experience, combined with her education, makes her the ideal candidate for the next mayor of Mitchell.

But that’s only the beginning.

Vicky’s passion for Mitchell is in serving the community. She currently volunteers as the president of the Mitchell Community Public Library’s Board of Trustees. She has previously served on the board of directors for the Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce, and she was the general chairwoman for the Persimmon Festival in 2009. She has chaired the Persimmon Festival Parade and volunteers infinitely with the chamber to help the festival each fall. She also created and implemented Trick or Treating on Main Street each Halloween.

Vicky also led the charge on the construction of the Mitchell Memorial Park in 2002-2003, where she served as the General Chairwoman as the community built the playground for its youth.

Vicky currently serves on the Mitchell City Council, after she was appointed in December. She previously served on the Mitchell City Council for four years, with three of those years as president. She has served on the city’s zoning board, as well, and has always said “yes” to anything that would help the community of Mitchell thrive.

In running for mayor, Vicky said she wants to apply her experience in business and organizational skills to all areas of the city.

“I think improved communication within the departments, as well as communication with Mitchell’s residents, would help enhance Mitchell,” Vicky said. “I am a fiscally responsible Republican who wants to see the city plan a conservative budget and maintain the city’s spending. Fiscal responsibility is paramount when we are dealing with taxpayers’ dollars. In addition, I plan to provide support to the local community and its businesses with the goal of attracting new opportunities for growth.”

Vicky has three daughters and recently celebrated the birth of her granddaughter.

She looks forward to earning Mitchell’s residents’ trust, confidence, and votes as she joins them in working toward making Mitchell the best it possibly can be.

“I would appreciate your vote, and I look forward to sharing my ideas with all of you in the coming days, weeks and months,” Vicky said.
