Several local organizations receive grant funding from the National Endowment for the Arts

INDIANA – This week, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) announced the awarding of 15 grants totaling $280,000 to Indiana nonprofit arts organizations and cultural programming providers during the first round of grants for Fiscal Year 2023.

“Together, these grants show the NEA’s support nationwide for strengthening our arts and cultural ecosystems, providing equitable opportunities for arts participation and practice, and contributing to the health of our communities and our economy,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, Ph.D. “I encourage everyone to explore these projects and the ways they help provide inspiration, understanding, and opportunities for us to live more artful lives.” 

Indiana grant recipients include: 

  • Trustees of Indiana University, Bloomington – Grants for Arts Projects – Dance ($15,000)   
  • Trustees of Indiana University on Behalf of Traditional Arts Indiana, Bloomington – Grants for Arts Projects – Folk & Traditional Arts ($45,000) 
  • Lotus Education and Arts Foundation, Inc., Bloomington – Grants for Arts Projects – Presenting & Multidisciplinary Works ($20,000)
  • Landmark Columbus Foundation, Inc, Columbus – Grants for Arts Projects – Design ($20,000) 
  • Fort Wayne Dance Collective, Fort Wayne – Challenge America Grant ($10,000) 
  • University of Saint Francis, Fort Wayne – Grants for Arts Projects – Presenting & Multidisciplinary Works ($25,000) 
  • Arte Mexicano En Indiana Inc, Indianapolis – Challenge America Grant ($10,000) 
  • Harrison Center for the Arts, Indianapolis – Grants for Arts Projects – Design ($20,000) 
  • Heartland Film, Inc., Indianapolis – Grants for Arts Projects – Media Arts ($20,000) 
  • Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis – Grants for Arts Projects – Music ($20,000)

  • Marion Community School of the Arts, Inc., Marion – Challenge America Grant ($10,000) 
  • South Bend Symphony Orchestra Association Inc., South Bend – Challenge America Grant ($10,000)

The Grants for Arts Projects program supports public engagement with, and access to, various forms of art across the nation, the creation of art, learning in the arts at all stages of life, and the integration of the arts into the fabric of community life. The next Grants for Arts Projects application deadlines are Thursday, February 9, 2023, and Thursday, July 6, 2023.  

Challenge America grants offer support primarily to small and mid-sized organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to populations that have limited access to the arts due to geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability. The next Challenge America application deadline is Thursday, April 27, 2023.
