South swimmers swamp Stars

BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington South recorded wins over Bedford North Lawrence during high school swimming action on Tuesday night.

The Panthers won 11 events in the boys meet and 10 in the girls meet.

Winners for the Stars in the girls included Shelby Slaughter (1:06.43 in the 100-yard butterfly) and Ava Lipp (1:10.86 in the 100 backstroke).

In the boys meet, Cole Baker was BNL’s only winner, touching first in the 50 freestyle in 21.44.

“A tough night with regards to team results,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “Bloomington South is a tough team this year. Having just had meets Thursday and Saturday, we swam some off events and did manage a couple of wins. More importantly we had a lot of PRs across the board, which is great to see heading into championship season.

“We swim a very demanding competition schedule, and even with that in mind it is always tough to get swamped by the other team. My hope is that everyone keeps in mind the prizes that await at the end of the season. By swimming tough competition, we will be better prepared when tickets to state are on the line.”

The Stars will compete in the girls Hoosier Hills Conference meet on Saturday.
