Dr. Fabio H. Ribeiro joins the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue as Senior Research Fellow

WASHINGTON – The Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue continues to expand its breadth and depth of expertise with the addition of Senior Research Fellow Dr. Fabio H. Ribeiro. As an innovator in the chemical engineering space, Dr. Ribeiro’s expertise in alternative fuel sources and carbon footprint reduction technology will continue to expand the Institute’s knowledge base across technological sectors that are relevant to global statecraft.

“The energy transition will happen only if new technological innovations in electrified processes will make them better and cheaper than fossil-driven ones. The final cost will be heavily dependent on policy decisions, on a global scale,” said Dr. Ribeiro. “A major breakthrough in diplomacy is needed to guide public funds and legislation to create the nexus point of industrial products for our nation, ensure global economic competitiveness, and increase U.S. energy security. Perhaps no other area of tech diplomacy will be more important.”

Dr. Fabio H. Ribeiro is the R. Norris and Eleanor Shreve Professor of Chemical Engineering and the Director of the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center on the Innovative and Strategic Transformation of Alkane Resources (CISTAR) at Purdue University’s Davidson School of Chemical Engineering. CISTAR is a successful collaboration of five universities and 32 industry partners that allies with industry to develop technological innovations and build a diverse and innovative workforce to responsibly realize U.S. shale gas potential in reducing carbon footprints.

Since 2003, Dr. Ribeiro has worked with Purdue University students and colleagues on the kinetics of heterogeneous catalytic reactions, as well as the adoption of next-generation technologies for the energy transition. Over the course of his 40+ year career, Dr. Ribeiro has received eight patents and authored over 150 publications, all while simultaneously advising students and fellows. He was recently recognized by Brazilian Ambassador to the United States Nestor Forster Jr. with the Embassy of Brazil’s Science and Technology Prize, an award honoring men and women who contribute to building bridges between Brazil and the United States in the fields of science and technology. Dr. Ribeiro is a demonstrated leader in his field and the educational community, leveraging his robust scientific knowledge to foster widespread technological understanding.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Dr. Fabio Ribeiro to the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue. His work in developing key technologies for the future of fuel transformation is catapulting the clean energy transition to new heights,” said Michelle Giuda, Director of the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue. “Our research fellows are identifying the world’s most pressing issues, like the need for clean energy solutions, and using their depth of scientific knowledge to create technological solutions. At the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue, we’re working to bridge the gap between technology and diplomacy to create a more secure future.”
