According to a probable cause affidavit, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch Center received a call on December 26th from a Worthington woman reporting she, her child, and her partner were receiving threatening phone calls from York around 7:12 p.m. York made more than 20 calls and text messages to the woman.

Around 11:16 p.m. local law enforcement from Greene County, Linton, Bloomfield, and Worthington responded to a report from the mother stating that York had been seen on the security camera footage of the Worthington residence.

At 11:25 the sound of gunshots was reported from the residence’s live security feed. Deputies arrived on the scene shortly after and reported they found a black GMC Canyon truck had crashed into the front corner of the residence.

Detective Shawn Cullison described the damage to the home.

“Matthew broke into the home. I could see the door frame was split, and the trim along the door was torn down. The glass was knocked out of the window on the door, and could see several bullet holes through the door, and door frame. I would later look around and notice several bullet holes in the chairs and kitchen table. There are two bullet holes in the closet door, which sits directly across the kitchen from the back door. There was also a single bullet hole in the bedroom door, which is across and left from the backdoor. The residence had a large plant in the kitchen, that also had bullet holes through its leaves. There was a large glass dish sitting on the table at the far end of the kitchen, that had been shot, and glass was all over the top of the table. Deputies recovered a total of 12 spent 45-caliber shell casings from the backdoor area of the home. I noticed the front window was broken, the front porch had been destroyed, along with possible damage to the foundation of the house. The back door would have to be replaced, along with two interior doors, and the kitchen table and chairs.”

Officers found York walking along the road, approx 1200 feet from the home with small lacerations on his forehead and he was detained. Police found two guns a 45-caliber on York’s person, and a 45-caliber AR-style pistol on the side of the road in a wooded area. Officers said York appeared to be intoxicated.
