Intoxicated man clips telephone pole and is arrested

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after early this morning after a Bedford Police officer noticed the driver of a silver Nissan Pathfinder swerving on 29th Street at Washington Avenue.

The officer said the driver was swerving off the north side of the street striking the curb and clipping a telephone pole at the intersection of 29th and Illinois streets. 

The officer activated his red and blue lights but the driver continued traveling west on 29th Street and increased speed. The vehicle then turned south onto Ted Jones Drive and continued without stopping. The vehicle continued south until it pulled into a parking spot in front of 2903 Ted Jones Drive.  

Jansen Ray

 The driver identified as 20-year-old Jansen Ray immediately exited the vehicle and began walking back to the patrol vehicle. The officer detained Ray who was intoxicated and admitted he had been drinking.

There was damage to Ray’s vehicle where he struck the telephone pole.

Ray failed several field sobriety tests. 

In Ray’s vehicle, police found several THC vape cartridges, a baggie of marijuana, and an open box of Busch Light beer.

Ray was transported to IU Health Hospital for a blood draw. Those results are pending.

He was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, illegal consumption, and being an unlicensed driver.
