Man is arrested for domestic violence in the presence of minors and more

BEDFORD – A West Baden man was arrested on a warrant after a domestic fight on November 29th.

On that day Bedford Police officers responded to the 1000 block of 4th Street at 12:34 a.m. after a 911 call with no one on the line. The dispatcher reported they could hear a verbal argument in the background.

Dispatch then received a second 911 call from a neighbor reporting a male was hitting the window of a silver SUV with a female and juveniles in it.

When officers arrived they located the SUV in the driveway with a male, female, and two juveniles inside.

Cody Bellamy

The woman told police that she and 25-year-old Cody Bellamy were inside the house and had an argument. When Bellamy realized the woman was recording the argument he got upset and stated “Bitch, you’re going to put me in jail.” She told police that Bellamy then “attacked her, choked her and body slammed her causing her to urinate herself”.

She was able to escape and ran across the street to a neighbor’s house in an attempt to get help.

She says Bellamy followed her and drug her down the stairs and grabbed her face, making it difficult for her to breathe and threatening to kill her.

He then grabbed her by the arm and took her back across the street to their vehicle.  She then attempted to call 911 and he attacked her again while inside the vehicle.

Bellamy told police the two had been arguing in the house and he attempted to leave but the female had locked the door preventing him from leaving. He said he moved the female to the side and left the home. He did admit to taking the phone from the woman but gave it back. He then told the woman he was done with their relationship and wanted to leave. The woman again attempted to stop him by giving him a hug and he pushed her away.

Bellamy told police she then attempted to grab him around the neck and pull him close but when he pulled away the woman scratched both sides of his neck.

The woman told Bellamy she would give him a ride to Brownstown because she did not want him walking. He then went back inside the home to get the kids and the car keys. While inside he could hear the woman yelling and honking the horn.

He got the kids and keys and went outside and got into the vehicle but the woman refused to leave and waited until officers arrived.

An ambulance was called to the scene to evaluate any injuries. The woman refused treatment.

The male was given a courtesy ride to the Men’s Warming Shelter.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Probation Department and a warrant was issued for Bellamy’s arrest on charges of domestic battery, strangulation, interfering with a 911 call, and domestic battery in the presence of minors.
