JUDAH – The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating a fatal fire that occurred Thursday in the 200 block of Lemon Quarry Road.
Emergency personnel from Marshall Township, Oolitic, and Perry Township Volunteer fire departments, Monroe Fire Protection District, and the US Forestry Service along with Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the blaze at 12:04 p.m.
The victim was pulled from a burning mobile home. The victim was unresponsive and firefighters began performing CPR. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.
The fire spread into the woods. Deputies freed chickens and a pig before the fire reached their enclosures.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
