Bedford Redevelopment Commission provides updates to the new police station

BEDFORD – The Bedford Redevelopment Commission discussed updates to the new Police Station progress during their regular meeting Tuesday afternoon.

The former Aldi building, and new location for the Bedford Police Department

The final process of the design stage has been completed, and the remaining balance of $58,400 was approved for payment to Midwestern Engineers. The next phase will include the open bid process, with a special meeting set for Thursday, November 3rd to award the bid.

Additionally, Chief Terry Moore shared his discussion with Electronic Communication Systems Inc. (ECS) and the process of acquiring a new Rohn 65 G Tower for the new station.

Example of the type of tower that will be purchased for the station

Currently, the police station has an antenna attached to the top of the building and works for dispatch at this time. However, once the new station is complete, this antenna will be insufficient causing an immediate issue. Additionally, the new tower will take time to acquire and install, so the time to act is now.

The new tower will cost $20,000, and provide sufficient services for the dispatch hotline. The payment will not be made until the tower is delivered, and installed. The expected arrival is set for 10 months.

The commission voted to approve both invoices before adjourning.
