Bedford Redevelopment Commission approves engineering agreement for new Police Station

BEDFORD – The Bedford Redevelopment Commission met in a special session to approve an agreement with Midwestern Engineers Inc. for engineering services for the new Bedford Police Station.

Former Aldi building and new location for the Bedford Police Department

The former Aldi building will need a series of upgrades to be able to serve at full capacity for the planned Police Station before the Department can make the one mile move up 16th Street.

The total cost of the agreement will be $186,500 and will be separated into three categories which includes:

  • Design work – $146,000
  • Bidding construction work process – $7,500
  • Contract Administration – $33,000

Some of the services that will be provided within the improvements to the current structure include bulletproof glass, and ballistic shields to offer protection for those inside the building.

Midwestern Engineers Inc. has been verified with several other customers and has previously worked on the sub-contracting work at the water treatment plant for the City of Bedford.

Mayor Craig and Chief Terry Moore met with the company and feel confident the work will be completed on schedule and feel they are the best business to have complete the project.
