Orleans Bison is getting a fresh coat of paint

ORLEANS – Some local Orleans residents have asked about the “mysterious” disappearance and the present “whereabouts” of the Orleans 200 Bison which “lives” at the Bicentennial Sulphur Well Park on West Vincennes Street.

Orleans Town Clerk Robert Henderson was able to shed some light on the mystery by reporting that the town’s famous Bison which was a part of the Indiana State’s 200th Birthday Celebration back in 2016 was in real need of a bit of a facelift and touch up after being exposed to the elements the past six years.

Town Crew members temporarily moved the statue to the high school a few weeks back where the Orleans High School Advanced Art Students could more easily do the preservation work needed.

Below are some recent images of the students refurbishing the Bicentennial Bison after being exposed to the elements for the past six years. Amanda Osborne and Austin Whittaker had taken the lead for this project. Jamie Hardin and Sophia Evans have worked along the way to get areas cleaned, filled, and painted. Dr. Morgan, art instructor, is supervising.

The Bison is expected to be back at Bicentennial Park and in its rightful place by late fall.
