Devils sweep past Stars in HHC opener

JEFFERSONVILLE – Jeffersonville advanced to the semifinal round of the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament with a 5-0 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during high school tennis action on Monday.

The Red Devils surrendered only seven games in singles. The Stars (5-12) fell into the consolation round.

Jeff’s Jaden Wells topped Graham Turner 6-3, 6-1 at No.1 singles, Teddy Burnette bounced Isaac Bridges 6-2, 6-0 at No.2, and Matthew Lowe stopped Orion Hill 6-0, 6-1 at No.3.

In doubles, the Devils completed the sweep as Reggie Ellis and Hayden Boseker conquered Jayden Kemp and Drew Stephenson 6-0, 6-2 at No.1. Ryan Crawford and Conner Seifried fought past Nate Pemberton and Carter Kimmel 6-4, 6-1 at No.2

“The effort was good, our guys played hard, but Jeffersonville controlled all the courts,” BNL coach Chris Kurtz said. “They were able to dictate the points and minimize errors. Credit to them for playing really well.”

BNL will face Columbus East in the next round. The Olympians fell to Jennings County 4-1 in the first round.
