GALENA – Floyd Central solidified its place atop the Hoosier Hills Conference standings with a three-set sweep of Bedford North Lawrence on Thursday night.

The Highlanders (7-3 overall, 3-0 in the league) posted a 25-16, 25-9, 25-10 triumph as the Stars slipped to 1-11 (0-2 in the league).

“We came ready to fight tonight,” BNL coach Whitney Carroll said. “I was so proud of them. We were sharp in game one and played some great volleyball. It’s always good to see that but especially at Floyd.

“We came up short but I’m incredibly proud of these girls. Bart (Powell, Floyd’s head coach) had some really good things to say about our team, which was good to hear. It’s nice to know that people are seeing the hard work these girls are putting in despite our record. Things are starting to turn around for this program. I’m really encouraged as we head into our next conference game. Hopefully we keep this spark.“

Annie Waggoner had 14 digs, Kendlyn Alvey totaled 10 digs, Camryn Anderson had 9 digs and 3 kills, and Sammie Gratzer totaled 4 kills and 2 aces for BNL.

The Stars will visit New Albany on Tuesday.
