Two were transported to the hospital after a driver crashes into a metal gate

BEDFORD – Two people were transported to a local hospital after the driver of the vehicle crashed into a metal gate on Old State Road 37.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report on Saturday, officers responded to a report of a crash on Old State Road 37, north of the intersection of Old State Road 37 just after 6 p.m.

According to police, 32-year-old Sheena Steigmyer, of Terre Haute, was traveling south on Old State Road 37 in a gold Chevrolet Equinox. She told police she was not familiar with the road and was approaching a dead end but “it was too late”. And she drove into a metal gate and came to a stop shortly after.

Steigmyer and her juvenile son were transported by an IU LifeLine ambulance to IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Steigmyer complained of minor chest pain caused by the seatbelt she was wearing. Her juvenile son, who complained of no pain was also transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation.

Damages were estimated between $10,001 to $25,000.
