BEDFORD – For many community members of Lawrence County, obtaining their High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma seems like an unobtainable dream as the “traditional” class style could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

When the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council offered a fast-paced, 3-day “bootcamp” class in March, 10 participants achieved their diploma and the 11th continues to work towards completion.

The second cohort of students will take the class that includes: reading, writing, math, science, and social studies at the StoneGate Arts & Education Center.

The first HSE bootcamp, sponsored by Duke Energy, was deemed a huge success by Joe Timbrook, Director of Career Development at the LCEGC. Joe said, “To have so many graduates in just a few short days was amazing. We are excited to offer this HSE Bootcamp opportunity to the community again so quickly!”
