MITCHELL – Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a wild land fire Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was reported at 1:40 p.m. at 2647 Rariden Hill Rd. at the home of Caden and Santana Williams. No one was at the home when the fire started.

“I went to pick up my son from preschool and run a few errands before coming home to see smoke. It came about two feet from the house but luckily we avoided it,” Santana Williams said.

When firefighters arrived, most of the fire was already out except for two areas where the fire was still present.

“The fire started after the wind picked up sparks from a trash fire the homeowner had the night before and hoped into the backyard before spreading out about 30-yards on the property near the back of the home,” said Marion Township Firefighter Seth Johnson.
Firefighters were on scene for 30 minutes before leaving the residence.
