Electrical issue sparks house fire in Mitchell

MITCHELL – According to Mitchell Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Coble, an electrical issue in a kitchen appliance sparked a fire Thursday at 123 West Vine Street.

Firefighters from Mitchell and Marion Township Volunteer Fire Departments were alerted to the blaze at 12:21 p.m. after the homeowner called and reported she and her pets were out of the mobile home.

The homeowner noticed the fire after returning from a neighbor’s home and saw smoke coming from the roof and windows.

Assistant Chief Coble warns residents to never leave appliances on while unattended.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 30 minutes.

The Red Cross was alerted to assist the homeowner with a place to stay.
