ORLEANS – Trick or Treaters in Orleans can knock on residents’ doors with their porch lights on Saturday, October 30th from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
The Orleans Police Department provided these safety tips:
- Use reflective tape on costumes and bags for greater visability.
- A parent or guardian should accompany children.
- Have children carry flashlights or glow sticks to make them visible to other trick or treaters and motorists.
- Stay in groups.
- Walk on sidewalks when possible and be alert to the traffic around you.
“Statistics tell us that children are more than twice as likely to be killed by a car while walking on Halloween night as at any other time of the year,” said Town Marshal Richard Dixon.
- When handing out treats do not give out homemade or unwrapped treats.
- Adults should inspect all treats prior to children eatting them
- Only eat candy that is in the original wrapper and unopened.
