Mayor Hamilton, BPD continue efforts to protect the community, investigate recent shootings

BLOOMINGTON – On Wednesday around 11:40 p.m., Bloomington Police Department officers responded to a report of multiple shots being fired and vehicles fleeing the scene of a residential address in the Crescent Bend neighborhood on Bloomington’s northwest side.

No injuries or property damage were reported as a result of this incident, but police found bullets and spent casings in the vicinity.

The incident is the third shooting in the area, following incidents on July 2 and July 8 in the nearby Crestmont Park playground that resulted in four people being injured.

Investigators are conducting the investigation into these events, with assistance from federal and state agencies.

Since the first incident, Bloomington Police has increased patrols in the Crestmont residential community, including the presence of officers on foot.

Investigators encourage anyone with information about these crimes to contact the department at 812-339-4477.  Callers may report information anonymously.

The BPD and other City leaders have been meeting with area residents and community leaders to coordinate efforts to protect residents and support community-led programming, organizing, and event-planning efforts.

Mayor John Hamilton

“We are deeply concerned about these shootings and will not tolerate this activity anywhere in Bloomington,” said Mayor John Hamilton.  “Public safety is my first responsibility, and we are committed to doing all that we can to protect our residents wherever we live, work, or play.”
