WASHINGTON CO. – On Wednesday, July 7th, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the emergency room of Saint Vincent Hospital in Salem, in reference to a patient with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The patient was identified as Roger Smith of Fredericksburg. Smith informed deputies that the incident occurred at his residence in Fredericksburg and that it was an accidental discharge.
Deputies went to Smith’s residence in Fredericksburg to investigate further and the investigation also supported a finding of accidental discharge. Smith was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital by ambulance for his injuries and is expected to recover.
