Two arrested for breaking into a home, stealing items

BEDFORD – Two people were arrested on charges of burglary, residential entry, theft and criminal mischief after a warrant was issued for their arrests.

Steve Krause

Bedford Police arrested 33-year-old Steve Krause and 44-year-old Wendy Krause.

Wendy Krause

According to a probable cause affidavit, on May 5th, Bedford Police officers responded to a call of a burglary in the 500 block of 18th Street. The homeowner told police she had left home at 1 p.m. on May 2 to go to a health facility.

While the woman was away she received a call from a neighbor who said her house appeared to be ransacked and items appeared to be missing.

When the woman returned home on May 5th the neighbor told her they witnessed Steve and Wendy Krause leaving the home multiple times.

The homeowner found the back door busted open and multiple things missing from her home.

The woman said she went to the Krause home to confront them. While she was there she was able to retrieve several items stolen from her home including her antique solid oak shelf, digital air conditioner, gold/emerald heart earring and necklace, and a wooden musical jewelry box.

Wendy told the woman she was just holding her stuff until she got back from the hospital.

Wendy was adamant that she was given a note from the homeowner allowing her to take the items and put them in her basement.

Steve told police he was with Wendy when the items were taken. He told police he didn’t know why they were in the house taking the items.

Police then contacted the homeowner about the note. The homeowner had the note which was addressed to the neighbor and had been left on the homeowner’s coffee table for the neighbor.

The note stated that Wendy and Steve were only allowed in the home with her approval.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for their arrests
