Limestone Heritage Festival kicks off today

BEDFORD – Downtown Bedford will be bustling with activity during this year’s Limestone Heritage Festival.

Events kick off today starting with food trucks on the west side of the downtown square opening at 11:00 a.m. and concluding at 11:00 p.m. The same hours of operation will be in effect for tomorrow’s food truck lineup. Attendees can get their fill of festival food favorites from a variety of vendors. The smell of barbecue will fill the air from various meal vendors including Judah Catering / Belly Buster, 812 BBQ, Brown Bag BBQ, Wever’s Smoke Eaters BBQ, and Highway 150 Blues Cafe. In addition to the meal vendors, there will be a variety of sweet treats from Tiger Ear, J&K Sweet Shop, Hoover’s Candy Shop, Kona Ice of Bloomington, Jiffy Treet, and Busy B’z Kettle Corn.

Live entertainment will be offered on the Harp Commons Stage both Friday and Saturday. Kicking things off Friday evening is blues band Tailfin Cadillacs at 6 p.m. Then at 8:30 p.m. Stone Carnival will take over with their crowd-pleasing high-energy performance. Derrick Weidner will perform with special guest Olivia Doyle from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. They’ll take a break for the Limestone Heritage Festival Parade, but then will be back to open for Saturday’s headlining performer and Bedford native, Clayton Anderson.

Busy B’z Kettle Corn

A limestone carving exhibit will take place at the Downtown Depot from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The photography contest will be in the meeting room at the Lawrence County Museum tonight from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Those visiting either exhibit will have the opportunity to vote for People’s Choice.

Jack Voigtschild

Parade Grand Marshal Jack Voigtschild will lead the Limestone Heritage Festival Parade when it steps off Saturday at 6 p.m., but beforehand be sure to join the Flag Raising Ceremony at 16th and I streets at 5:30 p.m. The parade is rain or shine, however attendees can monitor any announcements on the Parades of Bedford Indiana Facebook page or Bedford Revitalization Inc.’s website www.DowntownBedford.org

The Downtown Fireworks Display will light up the night sky from 10:00 pm to 10:15 pm Saturday evening. This is an all aerial fireworks show, as it’s been the past several years. More information on the Limestone Heritage Festival can be found online at www.DowntownBedford.org
