Updated Firefighters battling a blaze at Bedford Recycling

BEDFORD – Bedford Fire Department firefighters are battling a blaze at Bedford Recycling at 904 Summit Lane.

The fire was reported around 11:30 a.m.

Firefighters requested heavy machinery to be used to help battle the blaze. The recycling crew members are moving recycling material around to aid in getting the fire extinguished.

Firefighters are protecting the equipment by spraying water on the equipment and attempting to keep the fire away from the crane.

Firefighters also had to redirect hoses from a hydrant from H and 9th street to Summit Lane and I streets due to low water pressure at the H and 9th street hydrants.

One firefighter is being treated at the scene for heat exhaustion by an IU Health Hospital ambulance crew.

Tabernacle Of Praise Emergency Services is on the scene to provide food and water to firefighters.

Officials are asking motorists to avoid the area. Summit Lane is closed at the intersection of I Street. Also 9th and 8th streets are blocked because fire hoses are across the roadway.
