30-day closure of S.R. 135 delayed to April 12 in Jackson County

JACKSON CO. – Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Dave O’Mara Contractor Inc. plans to close State Road 135 in Jackson County on or after Monday, April 12, to complete a box culvert replacement project.

The structure is located approximately five miles north of U.S. 50 (south of Freetown), and is scheduled to remain closed for 30 days. The closure was originally scheduled to begin April 5.

The official detour for the closure will follow U.S. 50 to S.R. 11 to S.R. 258. To continue north on S.R. 135, use S.R. 58 to I-65 to S.R. 46. This is due to the S.R. 135 bridge closure over Kiper Creek (north of Freetown) that began earlier this month for a superstructure replacement project. It is scheduled to reopen in mid-July, weather permitting.

The $345,000 contract was awarded in August 2020 and also includes debris removal at the S.R. 135 bridge over Little Salt Creek. The contract completion date for both projects is June 30, 2021.

Motorists are reminded to slow down, use extra caution, and drive distraction-free in and near all work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
