Two men arrested after fleeing from police

MITCHELL – Two men were arrested early Saturday morning after a Mitchell Police officer stopped a red Dodge Ram pickup at 12:50 a.m. after the driver failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Stillman and Diana streets.

The officer initiated a traffic stop. The driver slowed down but refused to stop and turned traveling east onto Dale Street.

Roger Walls

The vehicle continued  to travel at approximately 15 miles per hour  approximately 394 feet on Dale Street when the passenger door opened and 51-year-old Roger Walls exited the vehicle while it was still moving.

Walls took off in a sprint, running south. The officer exited his vehicle and engaged in a foot pursuit.

The officer was able to catch up with Walls but struggled to restrain him due to Walls’ resistance. The officer was finally able to handcuff Walls.

Walls was arrested on two counts of resisting arrest.

Sean Edmonds

At the same time, the driver of the vehicle, 55-year-old Sean Edmonds fled the scene in the vehicle.

Other officers soon began a search for the red pickup.

Officers stopped the truck in a driveway in the 160 block of Dale Street about 150 feet from where Walls had jumped out of the vehicle.

As officers attempted to handcuff Edmonds, he pulled away and resisted by hiding his hands under his body. Edmonds was finally handcuffed and arrested on two counts of resisting arrest.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found two catalytic converters, which Edmonds said he got from a friend in Ellettsville.

Officers then returned to where Walls had fled from the vehicle. Approximately 140 feet from the road, officers found a black eye glass case that contained marijuana. A black smoking device with meth residue and a baggie that contained meth was also located. At approximately 167 feet officers found a small metal container that contained a baggie of marijuana, a baggie of meth and a cut straw used to ingest meth. At approximately 181 feet officers found a cell phone and a package of cigarettes. Police seized 1.40 grams of meth and 1.25 grams of marijuana.

Walls was then charged with possession of meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Edmonds was also charged with driving while his driver’s license was suspended.
