Purdue and Evidence In Motion expand partnership to offer new innovative health care certifications

WEST LAFAYETTE – Purdue University and Evidence In Motion (EIM) are expanding their partnership to offer two new specialty certifications for licensed health care providers in the U.S. – a certification in lifestyle medicine and an integrative behavioral health certification for rehab providers.

These multidisciplinary programs, offered through Purdue Online, prepare clinicians to take innovative approaches to treating complex and chronic conditions by incorporating principles from lifestyle medicine and behavioral health.

“With an increasing number of patients seeking care for complex and chronic conditions, these certifications empower health care providers with the foundational knowledge and skills for a more holistic treatment approach that can improve patient outcomes and provide a better quality of life,” said Dr. John Childs, chief executive officer at EIM, which provides accessible, lifelong education to health care professionals.

The certification in lifestyle medicine and the integrative behavioral health certification for rehab providers can be completed entirely online in six to nine months. The curriculums were developed by health care professionals from a variety of disciplines. The programs are open to all licensed health care providers including physical and occupational therapists and therapist assistants, medical doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, athletic trainers and more. The certifications have rolling admissions for four start dates throughout the year, and the inaugural cohorts for the partnership will begin in summer 2021.

“Making lives better is our focus in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Unfortunately for many, the increasing burden of chronic disease limits the attainment of a high quality of life,” said Tim Gavin, professor and department head of Health and Kinesiology at Purdue. “These certificates will help practitioners identify and implement personalized patient solutions to achieve optimal health and make patients’ lives better. In line with Purdue’s Giant Leaps initiative, the ongoing partnership between Purdue Online, the Department of Health and Kinesiology and EIM provides the mechanism to deliver this increasingly important content to clinicians around the world.”

The new certifications follow the success of Purdue Online and EIM’s therapeutic pain specialist certification, which has enrolled more than 100 health care providers since its launch in 2020.
